Two Person Formal Exercises
 
This is a list of the two person formal exercise training drills taught at our dojo
 
Sandan Uke Harai
 
This is a three level blocking drill. (Sandan Gi without the steps)
 
Kote Kite / Ude Tanren
 
Forearm Conditioning drills
 
Sandan Nu Ichi Harai
 
These are a set of 7 kumite forms that were brought back from Okinawa by Mr. Larry Pickel in 1964, from his training at the Jundokan. The first form is Sandan Gi. The other six are one step.
 
Ju Kumite
 
These are a set of 10 - 2 step kumite forms that were brought back from Okinawa by Mr. Larry Pickel in 1964, from his training at the Jundokan.
 
Ju Goshin Waza
 
This is a set of 10 self defense forms against basic grabs and holds.
 
Uke Naga Waza
 
This is a more advanced blocking flow drill
 
Kakie
 

Kakie is is a sticky hands exercise. In our Dojo we have several different drills to pracice this method of training.

 

The practice of kakie is the bridge between bunkai and actual application in that you are ‘playing’ with an un-cooperative partner who will be looking to defend against your attacks.  Kakie practice helps the practitioner to study the ‘what ifs’ of kata application by forcing the practitioner to think of his next move should his current attack be unsuccessful. Kakie comes into play every time you make contact with your opponent.

 

This is why developing a feeling of muchimi in your uke waza is so important, and why the blocks are not performed as fast as possible, but more with a feeling of heaviness, sticking to the opponents limb and blending with the strike.

 

In addition to this kakie will help the practitioner develop a strong root, sensitivity, fluid reactions, and the ability to read the opponents intentions through feeling his movements through the link of the forearms.

 
Kigehowa
 
This is a kakie flow drill based on Tensho kata and adopted from Sensei Kimo Wall.
 
In addition there are several other drills and two person bunkai forms for the katas.
